Abstract / Summary

Pilgrimage is one of the greatest cornerstones of Islam, and Al-Saí (going back and forth from Al-Safa to Al-Marwa) is a requirement, without which the pilgrimage would be incomplete, according to the doctrines of Al-Shafi’y, Malik, and Ahmad Ibn Hanbal, therefore, if a pilgrim skips one of the seven required Saí rounds- or even lacks a single step to complete them- his or her pilgrimage would stay invalid until the seven rounds are fully completed. However, now after we have been faced with the construction of the new “Masá” as an expansion to the original one, we had to look into the Quran, the Hadeeth and the books of Muslim scholars in order to find the verdict of the Shariá concerning this new Masá and the Saí in it. Knowing that the “Masá” has undergone changes and development since the time of the prophet in many ways such as removing some houses and shops and other obstacles that were inside its limits in order to facilitate the Saí process. Such changes are considered good and helpful, however, extending the limits of the Masá horizontally implies performing the Saí outside of the limits specified by prophet Mohammad- peace be upon him- and measured by scholarswith arms and fingers as measurement units. This architectural solution is unacceptable because this additional space does not have the same specialty of the original Masá. However, another acceptable solution could be adding floors vertically parallel to the original- above or under it- with out going outside the horizontal limits of it.
